Verb
A verb is a word or a mix of words that shows activity or a condition or condition. A verb is the piece of a sentence that mentions to us what the subject performs. Verbs are the hearts of English sentences.
ක්‍රියා පදයක් යනු ක්‍රියාවක්, වීමක් හෝ තත්වයක් පෙන්නුම් කරන වචනයක් හෝ වචන සමූහයකට කියන නමකි. ක්‍රියා පදයක් යනු වාක්‍යයක කොටසකි. එය ඉංග්‍රීසි වාක්‍යයක හඩවත බඳුය.
Example :
Mother cooks in the morning. ( A usual action - සුපුරුදු ක්‍රියාවකි )
Samantha is going to work ( A condition of action - ක්‍රියාවෙහි කොන්දේසියකි )
Kumara does not like to walk. ( A negative action - නිෂේධාත්මක ක්‍රියාවක් )
Senuri is a good girl ( A state of being - වීමක් හැඟවීම)
Verbs are related to alot of other factors like the subject, person, number, tense, mood, voice, etc.
ක්‍රියාපද, කතෘ, පුද්ගලයා, අංකය, කාලය, මනෝභාවය, කටහඬ වැනි වෙනත් සාධක රාශියකට සම්බන්ධ වේ.
Basic forms of verbs
There are Six Basic types of verbs. These structures are as per the following.

Base form : Children play in the field

Infinitive : Tell them not to play.

Past tense : They played cricket yesterday.

Past participle : I have eaten a pizza.

Present participle : I saw them playing with her today.

Gerund : Walking is the best exercise.

Finite Verbs
Finite verbs are the genuine verbs which are known as the foundations of sentences. It is a type of a verb that is performed by or alludes to a subject and uses one of the twelve types of tense and changes as per the number/individual of the subject.
Finite verbs යනු වාක්‍යවල පදනම් ලෙස හැඳින්වෙන අව්‍යාජ ක්‍රියා පද වේ. එය කතෘ විසින් සිදු කරනු ලබන හෝ යොමු කරන අතර Tenses දොළහෙන් එකක් භාවිතා කරයි.
Example :

Krishantha went to school. ( Subject : Krishantha performed the action in the past. This information is evident only by the verb 'went' - ක්‍රිෂාන්ත අතීතයේදී ක්‍රියාව සිදු කළේය. මෙම තොරතුරු පැහැදිලි වන්නේ 'ගොස්' යන ක්‍රියා පදයෙනි )

He is one of the best players. ( Here, the verb 'is' directly refers to the subject itself. - මෙහිදී, 'is' යන ක්‍රියා පදය කෙලින්ම යොමු වන්නේ කතෘට ම ය.
Non-finite Verbs
Non-finite Verbs are not genuine verbs. They don't function as verbs in the sentence rather they fill in as things, descriptors, verb modifiers, and so on Non-finite verbs don't change as indicated by the number/individual of the subject on the grounds that these verbs, additionally called verbals, don't have any immediate connection to the subject. Now and then they become the actual subject.
Non-finite ක්‍රියා පද සත්‍ය ක්‍රියා පද නොවේ. ඒවා වාක්‍යයේ ක්‍රියා පද ලෙස ක්‍රියා නොකරයි, ඒවා නාම පද, නාම විශේෂණ, ක්‍රියා විශේෂණ ලෙස ක්‍රියා කරයි. Non-finite ක්‍රියාපද විෂයයේ අංක ය / පුද්ගලයා අනුව වෙනස් නොවේ. මන්ද මෙම ක්‍රියාපද, වාචික ලෙසද හැඳින්වේ, කතෘ සමග ඍජු සම්බන්දයක් නොමැත. සමහර විට ඔවුන් කතෘ බවට පත්වේ.
The forms of non-finite verbs are – infinitive, gerund, and participle (participles become finite verbs when they take auxiliary verbs.)
නියත නොවන ක්‍රියා පදවල ආකාර නම් - infinitive, gerund සහ participle (සහායක ක්‍රියා පද ගන්නා විට සහභාගීවන්නන් සීමිත ක්‍රියා පද බවට පත්වේ.)

සමන් විදෙස් ගත වූයේ සෙල්ලම් කිරීමටය (නියත නොවන)

Playing cricket is his only job. (Present participle)

ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩා කිරීම ඔහුගේ එකම රැකියාවයි. (වර්තමාන කෘදන්ත)

I have a broken hockey stick. (Past participle)

මට කැඩුණු හොකී පිත්තක් තිබේ. (අතීත කෘදන්ත)

Walking is a good habit. (Gerund)

ඇවිදීම හොඳ පුරුද්දකි. (Gerund)
Action Verbs
Action verbs indicate what the subject of a sentence performs. Action verbs can make the listener/reader feel emotions, see scenes more vividly and accurately.
ක්‍රියාකාරී ක්‍රියාපද වලින් දක්වන්නේ වාක්‍යයක කතෘ කුමක්ද ඉශ්ඨ කරන්නේ යන්නයි.ක්‍රියාකාරී ක්‍රියාපද මගින් සවන් දෙන්නාට/කියවන්නාට හැඟීම් දැනවීම, දර්ශන දැකීමට සැලැස්විය හැකිය.
Action verbs can be transitive or intransitive.
ක්‍රියාකාරී ක්‍රියාපද සකර්මක හෝ අකර්මක විය හැකිය.
Transitive verbs must have a direct object. A transitive verb demands something/someone to be acted upon.
සකර්මක ක්‍රියා පද වලට ඍජු වස්තුවක් තිබිය යුතුය. සකර්මක ක්‍රියාපදයක් යමක්/යමෙකු ක්‍රියා කල යුතු යැයි ඉල්ලා සිටී.
